VOA Service Project

Valley of the Kings Sanctuary

                When: Saturday, May 11, 2013 – 10:30 am – 3:30 pm

                Where: Valley of the Kings Sanctuary in Sharon, Wisconsin

                   (See www.votk.org for directions)

 

               Who: The first 12 NEIC Venturing youth and adults to register

               What: Provide service in various projects around the sanctuary followed by a personal tour to meet the animals.

             Bring: Bring work gloves, water bottle, and signed waiver. Wear closed toed shoes and clothes that can get dirty. Bring a sack lunch.

            Cost: FREE

What is Venturing?

Venturing is the CO-ED 14-21 year old program of the Boy Scouts

WHAT CAN VENTURING BRING TO MY YOUTH GROUP?

1. CAMPING FACILITIES:
The Northeast Illinois Council Boy Scouts of America, owns and operates:

  • Camp Oakarro, Wadsworth Il, Fishing Lake and Picnic Shelter
  • Camp Crown, Trevor, Wi, many hiking trails, full training center
  • Camp Makajawan, Antigo, Wi, Summer Use Primarily 2000 Acres

2. TRAINING:
Venturing offers leadership training for youth leaders as well as adult advisors. Youth Protection Training, and advanced courses such as Kodiak are also available. Well planned course outlines and interactive techniques provide a quality experience.

3: ACTIVITIES:
Year round activities planned by local youth including: Climbing Day, Dodge Ball Tournament, Sailing Day, Stealth and Evasion and other activities.

4. AWARDS, RECOGNITION AND ADVANCEMENT:
There are a number of different awards the members of your youth group can earn by being in Venturing. These awards and recognition items help develop self-esteem and accomplishment, while assisting in program growth opportunities. Venturing also ffers a challenging advancement program highlighted by the Ranger Award.

5. PROFESSIONAL AND VOLUNTEER SUPPORT:
By being a registered Venturing Crew, you have a District professional to assist you in recruitment, planning, training, organizing your group and much more. Along with this resource, there are Scouting volunteers in your area to assist Scouting units succeed.

6. INSURANCE:
The Northeast Illinois Council Boy Scouts of America, has comprehensive accident and sickness insurance, and liability insurance for youth members, leaders and chartered partners/organizations and their Scouting units, including Venturing Crews. Venturing offers Youth Groups and Youth Ministry many resources and program opportunities.

Venturing is the fastest growing program of the Boy Scouts of America and is a great youth development program for young men and women ages 14 through 20. Venturing’s purpose is to provide positive experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults. NEIC Venturing Mission

To provide unique and dynamic opportunities through strong interactions between youth, adult leaders, and organizations in their communities that provide challenging experiences that develop leadership skills, foster personal fitness and help young people mature, preparing them to become responsible citizens. 

 

2011-2015 VENTURING TASK FORCE  ESTABLISHED

As directed by the National Council Strategic Plan, a task force has been chartered to study the Venturing program, membership, marketing, training and program support structure and to make recommendations to increase relevance, stimulate growth and enhance program support. The task force is targeting final recommendations by the end of the year with potential implementation in late 2013 or early 2014.  Aditional information will be posted as they come in.
