The Trailblazer Program is a great way to work on advancement to First Class and to get familiar with the camp.  It is our sincere hope that each troop will take this opportunity and utilize it to help promote the advancement of Scouts.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE: Scouts will receive a Trailblazer Card which lists all rank requirements up to First Class as well as where and when in camp these requirements can be worked on (only a few requirements can't be done at camp—see the Leader's Guide for details).

This card will aid your Scouts in knowing where to go and what they need to accomplish. Requirements completed with a staff member will be initialed on the Scout's Trailblazer card.  It is the Scout's responsibility to present his work to his unit leader and get his handbook signed—this is to encourage interaction between the Scout and his unit leadership.  It is strongly suggested that Scouts go to Scoutcraft and Commissioners in the mornings and to Eco-Con and Aquatics in the afternoon to avoid conflicts with merit badge sessions.  This has the added advantage of allowing the first year Scout to work on both the Trailblazer program AND merit badges.

There will also be numerous scheduled events throughout the week designed to aid the Trailblazer. These special sessions will be held at each program area and target various Trailblazer requirements—it is highly recommended that Scouts take advantage of these special sessions.

Even though no specific requirements are offered at Handicraft or Shooting Sports, it is recommended that each Scout participate in some Shooting Sport activity.  Handicraft is a great place for a Scout new to camp to earn his first merit badge. Basketry, Leatherwork and Woodcarving are all easily attainable during a week stay.

RECOGNITION:  Each Scout that completes at least 10 requirements toward First Class or achieves a rank up to First Class will receive a special patch, and all participants will receive a Trailblazer certificate.
