| Dear Friend of Scouting: Scouting is all about creating wonderful opportunities while providing guidance and support. The Northeast Illinois Council of the Boy Scouts of America has successfully carried out this mission for nearly 100 years. Thousands of Scouts have benefited from the remarkable opportunities offered through the Council's programs and especially at the camps operated by the Council. The memories instilled at Camps Makajawan, Sol R. Crown and Oakarro remain important to generations of Scouts from this area. We hope to enhance those memories through improvements to Makajawan and Sol R. Crown and the creation of a new camp close to home that will serve Cub Scouts and as a training facility for Scouts and leaders. We estimate the cost of doing this, as well as establishing an endowment to ensure the continuing maintenance of these facilities, will be approximately $10 million. Your help in the form of a general donation or through our "Buy a Brick" program will pave the way for current and future generations of Scouts to build their own memories at the Council's camps. Those of us who have been involved in Scouting know that it provides remarkable opportunities, offers a challenging, but supportive environment, and teaches both practical and personal skills that benefit a person for a lifetime. These new facilities will assist in that mission and your gift will help support and maintain that unique combination. Therefore, we ask you to join us in this effort to create opportunities for tomorrow's leaders. Kimbal T. Goluska, President Northeast Illinois Council |
