Emery Moorehead receives the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award.

At the Good Scout Dinner, we were priviledged to be joined by Emery Moorehead, legendary Chicago Bears tight end, Super Bowl Champion, and Eagle Scout from right here in Evanston, Troop 27. We had the rare opportunity to present to Emery the special honor of the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award.

This prestigious honor is given to an Eagle Scout who has uncommonly demonstrated his commitment to making our community a better place to live, and to achieving career and life success. It is rarely presented; in fact, only one in every 1,000 Eagle Scouts has been awarded this high honor. Emery will join the ranks of some well-known Eagle Scouts, including Robert M. Gates, Steve Fosset, and Steven Spielberg.

The Distinguished Eagle Scout Award indicates for all to see that Emery has lived up to the high ideals of being an Eagle Scout, and he has distinguished himself in the Chicagoland area as being an incredible community leader and also a strong advocate for our youth.

As we presented the award, we read the resolution from the National Eagle Scout Association that states:

WHEREAS Emery M. Moorehead earned the rank of Eagle Scout as a member of the Boy Scouts of America 43 years ago, on April 22, 1969; and WHEREAS, as an Eagle Scout, he has continued to serve God, his country, and other people by following the principles of the Scout Oath and Scout Law; and WHEREAS he has achieved distinction as a member of the Chicago Bears. WHEREAS he has given distinguished service to his community and nation as professional football player for twelve years in the National Football League, most notably for his hometown team, the Chicago Bears (1981 to 1988) and as the starting tight end of the 1985-86 Super Bowl Champion Chicago Bears, the Denver Broncos (1980), and the New York Giants (1977 to 1979); inducted into the Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame in 1999; an active supporter of the Chicago Bears' charity and outreach efforts; Past President of the NFL Players Association, Chicago Chapter; a Director of the North Shore Barrington Board of Realtors for six years, serving as Secretary, Treasurer, Vice Chairman, Chairman (2011) and member of the Fair Housing committee and Finance committee; Vice-President and member of the Northeast Illinois Council Executive Boy Scout Board for twenty-four years; Chair of the Council's Annual Scouting Golf Classic for each of the last thirteen years; Chair of the Council's Venturing Committee; and a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award.; Therefore, be it RESOLVED, that in recognition of these and other achievements and the desire of the Boy Scouts of America, upon nomination of the Northeast Illinois Council acting on behalf of the National Executive Board of the Boy Scouts of America, the honor and rank of Distinguished Eagle Scout is awarded to and conferred upon him on this 3rd day of May, 2012. In testimony whereof, the Boy Scouts of America and the National Eagle Scout Association have caused this commemorative document to be signed by its officers and its corporate seal to be hereunto affixed.
